  2. Variations appeared 1899, and although his
  3. celebrated choral work, the oratorio setting
  4. of Newman's The Dream of Gerontius, was
  5. initially a failure, it was well received at
  6. Dusseldorf in 1902. Many of his earlier works
  7. were then performed, including the Pomp and
  8. Circumstance marches. Among his later works
  9. are oratorios, two symphonies, a violin
  10. concerto, a cello concerto, chamber music,
  11. songs, and the tone-poem Falstaff 1913.
